Abstract

Sufis who do not Disclose the Secret of Haq: the Example of Sultān Veled ‎

Sufi masters classified people into three categories in general: Âmma, ahl-i hakāik and khāssa ( ‎or awām: the low, khavās: the high, khavāssu’l-khavāss/akhassu’lk-khvāss: the highest), and ‎deemed the low as eligible to Islam, and the high/the highest as eligible to Tasawwuf/Sufism. ‎This means that they shunned strictly delivering Sufism to the low. To prevent ‎misunderstanDings, while some Sufis chose to use metaphors when talking about delicate mysti-‎cal matters, Sultân Veled chose not to speak at all about this kind of matters by using sentences ‎like “Pen came here, and its head was broken”, “For the wise, a sign is sufficient”, and “There are ‎many secrets hidden in this. But it is not allowed to utter them.” ‎
