Sufis who do not Disclose the Secret of Haq: the Example of Sultān Veled
Sufi masters classified people into three categories in general: Âmma, ahl-i hakāik and khāssa ( or awām: the low, khavās: the high, khavāssu’l-khavāss/akhassu’lk-khvāss: the highest), and deemed the low as eligible to Islam, and the high/the highest as eligible to Tasawwuf/Sufism. This means that they shunned strictly delivering Sufism to the low. To prevent misunderstanDings, while some Sufis chose to use metaphors when talking about delicate mysti-cal matters, Sultân Veled chose not to speak at all about this kind of matters by using sentences like “Pen came here, and its head was broken”, “For the wise, a sign is sufficient”, and “There are many secrets hidden in this. But it is not allowed to utter them.” Keywords Cunayd al-Baghdādī, Hallāj-ı Mansūr, Muhyi al-Dīn Ibn al-Arabī, Sadr al-Dīn Konawî, Mewlānā, Sultān Weled, Sufis, Secret, the Low, the High.
