Abstract

Abu Madyan Shu’ayb al-Ansari’s sufi way of life

Abu Madyan who is calling the Junayd of the West had influenced Maghrib sufis as Muhyi’d-Din ibn al-Arabi. He lived in Muslim Spain and Morocco and Algeria on period of Almohad. He attaind a hign education in the Islamic sciences. He was espicially well-known person at the Sufism. He followed the chivalric practice of the fityan of Khurasan. We can summarize his Sufism idea in the three hideline.
1. Consideration of sufi ethics Abu Madyan needs nine principle for this idea : The murid desiring union with God in this way would first enter into a state of repentance and remorse, the need for reliance upon o normative Religious Tradition based on the Qur’an and Suna, the asceticism, the poverty, truthfulness and sincerity, complete reliance upon God, futuwwa, companionship and service, to maintane conduct proper.
2. Sufi training method: In this matter he attract attention to four items: Spiritual guide’s qualities, disciple’s qualities, abstinence and mujahada, incessant repetition of certain words or formulas in praise of God, often accompanied by music and dancing, the journey
3. Gnosis,intellection and existential theory
