The Sufi Analysis of Existence, Divine Love and Jamal (Beauty) in
Sheikh Ahmet Al-Jazari’s Poem
who is one of the most prominent Sufis lived during the 17th century in the
Ottoman Empire, in terms ofexistence, divine love and jamal (beauty).
Although Jazari describes some subjects and concepts of Sufism through
his poems, he especially touches upon love and jamal in a detailed way and
discusses these subjects in a wider way in his poems. Even though Jazari
explains his existence understanding within the framework of “wahdat-al
wujud” (unity of being), which is the general understanding of Sufism, he
calls his thoughts in this field as “wahdat-al mutlaq.” (unity of absolute)
In his perspective, everything created, apart from the Creator, is hâdith
(occurred). Allah wills the people to discover His ilm(knowledge) while He
reflects His own names and attributes to each creature He created.Since
the Creator, the Absolute being, creates the whole things that exist with
His own jamal and nur (divine light), the human being, who heads to Allah,
also attaches to Him by the nur of jamal. Since, when Allah creates with His
jamal attribute, the human being falls in love with this divine love that exists
in every creaturecreated. Flaming of the divine love in human being is only
realized with the discovery of divine jamal in the object.
